Chinese lucky cats, also called fortune cats, maneki-neko, beckoning cats, waving cats, or welcome cats are a traditional piece of artefact present in many traditional Asian houses especially the Japanese and Chinese houses. These cat shaped figurines always portray a domestic cat with one of its front paw raised along its headline giving an impression that it is beckoning the people going by. Chinese and Japanese merchants always keep a lucky cat in their shelves in a visible manner with a belief that it will bring more clients and thus bring good luck. Traditionally believed to be of Japanese origin, maneki-neko is equally popular nowadays with both Chinese and Japanese.
