Our Journey
Our History
Foundation and Early Years (1981-1982)
In 1981, the Pau family recognized a significant gap in the Irish market—local Asian restaurants and takeaways were struggling to find authentic Asian ingredients, often resorting to importing goods from the UK. Inspired to fill this gap, the Pau brothers—Howard, Albert, and Spencer—founded Asia Market. The company's first location was secured at 30 Drury Street, where extensive renovations transformed the space into a vibrant hub for Asian culinary essentials. A strategic investment in a delivery van set the stage for local distribution.
Expansion and Growth (1983-1990)
As Ireland’s appetite for Asian cuisine grew alongside its Asian community, so did Asia Market. In 1983, Spencer and Albert expanded the business to Belfast, opening a branch called Asia Supermarket on University Street, which later relocated to Ormeau Road. This branch continues to thrive, with plans for a future relocation to accommodate growing demand. The fleet expansion with an additional van enabled broader delivery coverage, including Cork, Galway, Waterford, and Limerick, with Howard leading the operations.
Strategic Development (1991-2005)
By 1991, the need for larger premises led to the acquisition of a new property at 18 Drury Street, which officially opened in June 1995. This move underscored Asia Market’s position as Ireland’s leading supplier of authentic Asian ingredients, servicing an expanding base of restaurants and individual consumers.
Innovation and Diversification (2006-2013)
2006 marked a significant transformation with the purchase of the former Tayto factory in Ballymount, Dublin 12. This location was developed into a combined retail and cash-and-carry center, alongside a substantial warehouse facility. The delivery service also saw substantial growth, with the fleet expanding to 18 trucks, ensuring wider reach and more efficient customer service.
Culinary Ventures & Revival (2014-2016)
The entrepreneurial spirit of the Pau family led to the opening of the Duck Restaurant on Fade Street in 2014, further diversifying the business into direct culinary ventures. In 2015, the Ballymount site was enhanced with an new extension to better serve a growing retail and wholesale clientele. The flagship store on Drury Street underwent significant renovations in 2016, modernizing the space to better reflect the quality and heritage of the products offered.
E-Commerce Expansion (2017-Present)
Embracing digital transformation, in 2017 Asia Market launched its e-commerce platform, bringing a vast array of Asian food products online. This move quickly positioned Asia Market as the largest Asian e-commerce brand in Ireland, expanding its reach and providing unmatched convenience to customers. The online platform offers an extensive selection of products, ensuring that authentic Asian ingredients are just a click away for any consumer across the country.
