The Duanwu Festival of China, popularly known as the Dragon Boat Festival, traces its origin back to 2000 years. The festival gets its name from the dragon boat races that take place around China during the festival season. The date of the festival varies as per the Lunar calendar, it usually falls on the fifth day of the fifth month, which happens to be around the time of Summer Solstice.

Though several theories exist in connection with its origin, the one which links it to the first Chinese poet Qu Yuan is the most accepted one. The festival is associated with special food delicacies such as Zongzi rice dumplings that can be filled with sweet or savoury fillings.
