Songkran is the Thai New Year Festival, which is celebrated from 13th to 15th of April every year. This is the most important festival of Thailand as it marks the commencement of the summer season. The festival is known as the Water Festival of Thailand because of the water fights taken place between people in every nook and corner of the country as part of the festival. Songkran gets its name from the Sanskrit language which refers to the shifting of the sun from one Zodiac to another.

It is celebrated during the season when the Sun is entered into the Aries Zodiac. The origin of the festival is associated with a Thai Buddhist myth which deals with a God’s lost bet with a human. So, Songkran is treated as a significance event according to the Thai Buddhist tradition.
