There is an edible fleshy wall inside the peel that surrounds an inner seed which is dark brown to black in colour. The only edible part is the fleshy wall, which is light in green in colour and is succulent and juicy. The skin and the seed are not consumed. Longan is a healthy fruit, which is a source of potassium. The name longan has roots in the Chinese language, which literally means ‘dragon eye’ when pronounced in Cantonese. Longan has found a part in Chinese traditional medicine, as well as in Asian desserts, snacks, and soups.
