Japanese brand Marufuji offers Green Sushi Decoration in a box of 1000 pieces. This contains plastic bento grass pieces which are used as a garnish or decoration for sushi rice dishes. Called ‘Baran’ or ‘Haran’ colloquially in Japan, these plastic bento pieces appear in green colour with a striking resemblance to green grass leaves. Though used as a garnish, the actual purpose of this artificial bento grass strips is to act as an anti-bacterial divider that prevents the flavours of sushi rice dish from mixing each other.
